The picture below shows Max beginning the editing with some of the test footage we shot earlier in the week. As you can see the program CS6 is opened and in full use. Below is a a more detailed example of how the Adobe premiere program looks when in full use.
Encoded Final Draft
Encoded Interview.
This is the an interview that we filmed for the Band. We filmed this because this can then used for television or for radio shows. This is a key part of our marketing campaign and we fell will be very useful when trying to introduce an up and coming band into a very competitive industry.
Encoded Lip Sync Tasks.
This is a lip sync practice tasks that we carried. One of the aspects that our video will be marked on is lip syncing. Therefore we feel it is very important to practice this. During we wanted to emulate the kind of things you would be seeing in the final video. For example Sam Cook will be focusing on playing the guitar whilst Max Johnson will be the main singer and will focus on the lip syncing and the lyrics of the song. During editing this short clip we used it as an opportunity to 'mess around' with effects that we wouldn't usually thought about using. For example the purple lightening affect on the guitar string.
Website Progression - Contact us page
This is the contact us page on our website. This page contains a box where fans or critics can write to the band and tell them what they think of the album. This is the most incomplete page as it contains alot of blank empty space to either side of the picture. Also the countdown is at 0. This is very bad as it will not help to build up hype for the album.
Website Progression - Tour Page
This is the tour page on our website. It contains a poster showing all of the tour dates and venues that Encoded will be playing in. The countdown to the album is also featured to build up hype to the Album being released.
Website Progression - Gallery Page.
This is the gallery page on our website. It contains all of the best photos from our various photo shoots. It also contains that countdown. This is a continuous theme throughout all of the website as we want it to create hype.
Website Progression - Album Page
This is the 'Album' page on our website. This page is basically and advert for thew album and to tease people about what is will be like. The song names are featured on this page. This is most incomplete page on the website and needs alot of work done on it to be up to the standard that the we are aiming for on this website.
Website progression - Band Page.
This is the 'Band' page for our website. This is a page that contains lots of information about the band. The information is mostly background information about how the band came about and how they were signed. It also talks about there influences and there home town.
Website Progression - Homepage
This is the Homepage for the Encoded Website. Out of all the pages on the website this is the most complete page. The two pictures are the best 2 photos that we have been able to make from the photo shoot. The information is a very basic amount of information and there is allot more information on the 'Band' page. The countdown in the top left of the screen is the best feature on the page. It is very eye catching and will help to build up hype for our upcoming album. The countdown was the most popular feature in the feedback we received from our peers. Due to this fact we decided that it should become a prominent feature throughout the website and so it was put on every page.
Wesbite Feedback.
Encoded:
WWW - really like the countdown idea in the top right. A good amount of pages with relevant information and picturesEBI - in my opinion, I feel like the font could tie in with the genre and conventions of 'Encoded' a little bit better
Encoded: The website looks professional, like it could be a real artists website. A good amount of pages and the information is well written and pictures are good. I like the transitions as you change from page to page. Would be even better if the social media links at the bottom of the page actually took you to the artists social media accounts.
The website is very catching as soon as you enter the pageLinks are all clear in the page, but links at the top could be missed as they are small and vanish as soon as you scrollTwitter links are good
Encoded:WWW - Really like the countdown idea in the top right. A nice amount of pages with relevant information and pictures. Information spread across pages evenly. EBI - The font could tie in with the genre and conventions of 'Encoded' a little bit better, maybe spray paint or stencil effect?
Encoded:WWW - I love the countdown widget and the colours fit the genre. The pictures featured are really good and the tour dates are believable.
EBI - Spelling mistakes on 'Band' page need to be fixed. The website is quite standard. Without being mean nothing really stands out at me. When it comes to their website i feel that they need to look into different designs and layouts for their photographs etc. This website does not include any merchandise of any kind. This makes the website look very unfinished and unprofessional. Even though these problems need to be addressed i do however like the contrast of white on black for the themes of the website. This makes the writing stand out and is very eye catching i also love the countdown they have put onto the site. I think this is a great idea for them. In conclusion all they need to do is play with the design and make some merch.
The website for Encoded is also sleek and contemporary. I think that the overall design is appropriate and effective for the Indie/Rock vibe, as it is somewhat reminiscent of groups such as Arctic Monkeys. The site features a few more links than Grace Starr, including contact; there is also a countdown gadget for the album release, which is often found in such websites to promote and create hype for the release.Score: 10/10
EncodedThe definitive highlight of the Encoded website is the countdown at the top right of the homepage. It is something unique as I haven’t seen anything similar in previously analysed website and is something they will make the website stand above others. However, the colour scheme is a little bland (though that is the general theme of the album) but could use a little livening up. Some of the other webpages are also unfinished however which is the main issue.
Encoded:WWW - I love the countdown widget and the colours fit the genre. The pictures featured are really good and the tour dates are believable. Spelling mistakes on 'Band' page need to be fixedWhat’s Good:The design and layout of the website if great, i also like the consistency throughout the publications ( the cloud background on the tour poster etc) The way that the pages change is really nice aswell. The Countdown is cool, but what is it for? a tour? a gig? a meet and greet?
Even Better If:Your menu worked correctly, having issues getting back to the home page / band page once i have moved on from them. Double countdown on the album page? would be better if the random one to the left hand side of the screen was removed. The pictures in the gallery don't seem to fit properly, text is cut of, top of heads etc. the countdown on the contact page isn't doing anything...
I like this website as it is very minimalistic and only shows what’s important. This website does however need some tweaking as some of the links don’t work and sometimes you can’t get to the homepage which needs to be fixed. I like the countdown and thin k it is a very good feature and makes it stand out.what went well - the countdown on the homepage is a great widget. the colour scheme of the website matches the photos well.
even better if - there are obvious and consistent grammar errors on the 'band' page which need to be fixed. there is a countdown that is already at 0 on their 'tour' page. This website has some very good pitcures on it, they have edited them well and the timer that they have in the top corner which is counting down to their album being released is also very clever.
They seem to have forgotten to actually really promote the band because they havent really put any text in this website. They havent mentioned enough about themselves for people to understand about the band. Also on the page for tour they have got a clock countdown on the page and another one in the top corner which is not needed it just looks stupid. The idea of the countdown is quite good it give the audience something to look forward and to and be excited about. The tour venues are related to the 02, mostly which they have stated the band is linked with which shows good continuity. The Grammar does not make sense on the home page, there is a close of bracket but no open. Also there is a link to home at the top that does not go to anything.
By far I feel that this website has the best little unique touch to it. My favorite part of this website is the countdown clock until the album is released. This looks really professional and is such an easy thing to include, however looks great. I also really like the simplicity but yet again the effectiveness of the layout, and they website is easy to follow around to different pages. The website however is lacking merchandise which would give it that extra marks I feel and maybe putting some more up to date images of them shooting the music video.
This is the feedback we received from the Website analysis that was carried out by our peers. We feel that this constructive criticism was very useful as it pointed out lots of little things that were wrong that could easily be fixed to make the website more complete and generally better.
Digi Pack Planning.
This is a concept of how we wanted the Digi Pack to look. We want every side to contain a good photo and keep the same feel and theme throughout. This is obviously a very rough draft as we have not currently got the pictures that will be used on the Digi Pack. The Digi Pack will keep a very similar look and theme to our website. This is to keep synergy so that when someone sees something Encoded they will instantly recognize the similar features throughout all of our products.
Digi pack.
This is the final encoded Digi pack.
These are the 6 squares that will be the sides and covers of a CD. We have used the clouds as a solid background throughout. We feel it is important to have a very clear theme to all sides of the digi pack. This is so a fan or listener can see any of the squares above and instantly know it is an Encoded product. This is only a first draft and we know that there needs to be a CD cover on a CD. This will be implemented in the digi pack in the future.
Website plan
This was the very first rough draft for our website. We worked in a group and brainstormed roughly how we wanted the website to look. This is what we came up with. Now that we look back on this after we have created the website we have managed to get the website very close to the original plan. Also has a group we are happy with how the website turned out.
Filming and Editing Evidence.
Shots so far.
These are all the shots we have to far. The shots on the left are all the live performance shots as these will take up the majority of the video. All the shots of the live performance are at least 3 minutes long meaning there will be enough footage.
The middle column are the shots that we recorded in the house, here we recorded lots of shots for a montage shot we intend to put in the video. This part of the video will involve us moving around the front room. We intend to make this shot look like the band is relaxing outside the show.
The last column are shots we recorded in the road messing around. These shots will be used throughout the video to show the band messing around. This will give the viewer a more personal look into the bands life.
Editing so far.
This is how are editing is going at the moment. We feel that the first 50 seconds of the video is sorted and looks good as we have lots of cuts and variety of shots with perfect lip syncing. The problem we have is that we don't feel there is enough shots to fill the whole 4 minutes. Because of this we will be looking to do one more shoot.
Second Filming Shoot Risk Assesment.
This is the Risk assessment for the filming of the performance which will happen after school on Friday the 24th of October. For Health and Safety purposes we wanted to fill out this risk assessment Doing this also made us think more about what could possibly go wrong in the performance and helped us to plan around these problems incase they do occur.
Radar article research.
The main feature in this article is the Picture. This is so people can see what the artists is like and connect to them while they are reading the article. When we are making our article we will also use a photo of the two so that people can connect to them. The photo that we are intending to use will synergyse with the rest of our marketing campaing. It will be a black and white photo that will also feature on the digi pack. It is important to be synoptic when aking and article like this as the main purpose is to sell more albums. The easier it is for someone to connect the article to the album the more likely they are to spot it in a shop or online and buy the album.
Underneath the main picture there is a small blurb about the artists. This is also one of the main conventions in all radar articles. To keep conventions we will be using this feature in our article. We feal this is an important place to give a small peice of background infomation about the band, because if someone likes the band it is very commom for them to also want to know more about the poeple they are listening to.
There is also a separate piece of text inside the larger article. This is a common convention within radar articles and will be used in our article.
Evidence of filming.
So far we have filmed the majority of what we planned to film. This has included as follows:
Shoot 1
Our first stage of filming involved us taking so concept close up shots of the two band members faces. We shot this footage at a location at the back of the stage in school which contains a dark bricked walk way which allowed us to take some very detailed conceptual moving light shots using spotlights and the dark location. They were all close up shots involving lip syncing and looked very striking.
The second stage of filming which was perceived to the main part of our music video was the live performance shoot. This took place in the drams studio at school, but as you can see from previous post due to large amounts of planning under went a transformation to become 'Encoded's live set'. This involved the construction of a back drop which can be seen during our production diary, and in full use below. During this shoot we took a much wider variety of shots, from close ups to tracking shots, to medium long shots and low angles. This covered a large variety of angles across the stage and studio. Using access above and around the sides of the stage also helped considerably as we were able to get high angle shots to accompany the point of view shots. Below you can see how we went about setting up the studio as well as filming.
Shoot 3
Shoot number 3 for us involved filming at the lo action of Richards house and the road outside. We chose this location to film some more close up and concept shots as the lighting was almost perfect and the road out the front of the location was perfectly catered for some natural shots of the group interacting and showing a natural side to the group away from the performance location. These were mainly close up lip syncing shots using lighting set ups, however did also include some wide angle shots of open spaces.

Digipack Research
During the construction of our digipack we undertook a lot of research to gather ideas and inspiration for our own. During this process we examined packs from both modern day artists as well as those from years gone by. We liked the aesthetics of many of the older covers including the one we used for our main source of inspiration, that of 'Ballyhoo- the best of Echo & The Bunnymen, which can be seen below.
We used this as a template and inspiration for our digipack and as you can see the Encoded digipack puts a modern unique spin on this design as well as showing key similarities such as the open space pictures of the clouds in our digipack, and the setting sun in that of the Ballyhoo's.

What do record labels look for when signing new artists?
Talent:
Major record labels spend millions looking and scouting for new artists and they only take on the very best artists so they do not waste there money. They also want to insure themselves by only singing people who appeal to large audiences.
Product:
As a band trying to break through into the industry will try and spend to much making a very high end video. By using equipment like a non-expensive microphone, a compressor , a pre amp, some basic software and any form of computer a song could easily be made and shared. Saving money this way is vital for a new and struggling artist and defiantly something to remember for bands as we try to break into the industry.
Placement:
As we have created our product we now need to concentrate on getting it noticed. To secure a large fan base we will be posting our song on Soundcloud, Youtube, BandCamp and Ourstage. Also we will focus on keeping our social media up to date.
Promotion:
We will almost entirely rely on social media to promote our song. We are going to use this as because our band is just starting social media is a free way to reach potentially millions of people.

Website review.
This is the website for Grace Starr. I think this website looks very professional. Also I think the photo page is very professional and the light in the photo's is the best looking photo shoot out of any.
WWW (What went well): The photos are some of the best taken on any website.
EBI (Even better if): There was more information about the artists.
WWW: The detail, and the use of pictures to convey the genre of the song.
EBI: Some gramatical errors on the 'About' page and some pictures are blurry.
WWW: The pictures used are perfect to show the artist. There is lots of detail and tabs to look at.
EBI: There are no dates on the 'Dates' Page. The Meet Cosmo page is empty and should be filled in.
WWW: The amount of detail on the website in terms of dates, merchendise and the gallery.
EBI: On the gallery page the white text is very hard to read on the white background.
This is the website for Alleyways. It is the most complete and professional looking website. It has an art deco feel about it and it shows the look that the band are going for. The website contains lots of tabs and areas to look at and they are all detailed and professional.
WWW: The professional level achieved by the website.
EBI: The pictures are very good so more on the website would be good.
Alex Echo's website has the best homepage out of any I an analysing. The way the photos cycle through is very professional and is good because we get to see what the artists is like. The information page is very detailed and gives lots of information.
WWW: The homepage and Photo's look very professional.
EBI: The merchandise page is very empty and the pictures are blurred.
This is the website for James Couleur. This is a good website and the pictures used fit there look very well. Some of the pages are very empty and do not contain enough information. The Album and Tour pages are very empty.
WWW: The use of pictures to show the feel of the artists.
EBI: It would be a lot better if there no empty spaces and all the pages had enough information on them.
This is the website for Jaya. It is a very professional website and it is obvious what genre of music the artist is. There is lots of information and background on the website.
WWW: The professional look of the website.
EBI: Some of the pictures on the website are blurry.
Evidence of filming.
In this shop we were just messing around with lots of different angles, shoots and positions trying to find shot that would work well in our video. This was a shot we really liked and we planned to cut it into the video very quickly.
This is another shot from the days shoot. We had the band cycling down the street on a bike. This again was the kind of random feel we were going for and also we feel that it will fit in well with the happy feel our performance also had.
Encoded Music Website
This is the design for the Encoded website. It givers people insight to the band, album and gallery. You can easily access information about the band in the Band summary page. There is a little history about the band and then there are countdowns to shows and the release of the album.
This is the band page, This is where there is an insight into the band. There is information about were they grew up and there influences. We wanted this information to be on there as it lets people relate to the band.
This is the album page on the website. We used this to advertise the album and there was also large countdown to the release of the album.
Uk Chart Research.
Chart Research
Current Top 6
This was the Chart from 9th of November 2014, by looking at this the top 4 of the top 6 are catchy pop songs that are easy to listen to and remember. The other two are love songs that people can relate to, one of these songs is by Ed Sheeran. Because he is on the same record label as our band it shows that their is room in the current music market for a band like us as Ed Sheeran makes similar style of music to us!
Encoded Story Board.
When you are creating a large project like this one it is very important to plan out lots of small details so that you are not going the filming anf production side of things unprepared. This is a detailed shot by shot breakdown of what the music video will consist of. When we filming we mostly stuck to this plan as we all liked the ideas that we origianlly came up with.
Encoded Audience Questionaire.
We wanted to do a lot of research into different genres before decided on what Genre to do. To achieve the detail we wanted we used Survey Monkey to create a detailed survey in which people could ask many question about how they consume music and what music they listen to. Below is a small section of the survey we created.

Influences.
Encoded use many influences and inspirations to get were they are and to make the music they do.
There main influence in the industry is the killers.
The Vaccines are another of our biggest influences. We really like the songs they make and the style of the band. We also like how they are a male band and we can connect to them in that way.

Music Director Study.
Francis lawrence
This is a music director study that I created. This was helpful as it gave us more research into the industry.

Group Evaluation.
At the start of project the group was very unsteady and lots of arguements. As a group we conouldnt agree on anything and we were really struggling to get any ideas of the ground. After many group meeting we realised that the only to acheive a really good grade was to put our differences asside and just choose and idea and work together. After this we have worked very well together and escpecially since we filmed. I think that finally seeing ours ideas in film we worked towards a common goal.
Pete Fraser.
Pete Fraser Talk.
We attended a talk with media guru Pete Fraser. This was very helpful and we learned lots about the industry and what we would need to achieve a good grade in the music video section. Pete talked about how to avoid the cliches which lots of people fall into. He also advised us not to chose a well known song as we would constantly be compared to this.
Filming on Friday 31st October
We booked the drama studio for after school on the friday. Throughout the week we all planned the evening and decided what we were going to bring. Sam Cook brought in fairy lights for the display behind the band. We also ordered lots of confetti or ticker tape to drop on the band as they performed. Sam Cook also bought in a very big leaf blower from home. This was one of the most importants tool we used in the production as the confetti was one of the main features in the performance. We had planned to only use the drama studio for about 3 hours. When we got there and started to set up we knew that we would need alot more time to set up than we had anticipated.
Setting up included:
-Getting out all of the blackout curtains from the store cuboard and hanging them all up around the back of the performance area.
-Hanging up the large encoded. We needed to hang it off one of the large support beams that hang on the ceiling of the studio. This took alot longer than we expected as we needed to work out the lengths of the rope on each side so that the sign was level.
Performance:
- The whole perormance went well it just took alot of trial and error to get it exactly how we wanted it.

Encocded Social Media
https://twitter.com/encodedmusix/status/529579469909291009
This is the Encoded twitter page. The pictures were all taken on some of the photo shoots we went on with the group. We choose the green photo for the main picture because it shows the pair prominently but does not give to much away. We hope that this will entice people to look at more of the twitter page and could leads to gaining a bigger following. Twitter is an excellent website for promoting a band. We used it as an integral part of our Marketing Campaign. It allows easy communication with fans and we have used it to share important dates and images with people.

Instagram is an excellent was to share moments with fans. Also it can be used to upload snippets of the video to 'tease' fans. Also the fans can easily respond and interact with us via the comments section. We have tried to regular upload to the different social media that we have to keep up the connection with the fans. Also it progresses our marketing campaign for which we are working very hard to progress the image and synergy acroos the band
